For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.


It was this one image that I really think captures the duality of life and death. The subject, Charles Snelling, looks longingly at his late wife's photo hanging on the wall. In the same space, we see Snelling's reflection in the mirror hanging beside the photo. The side by side contrast of the living subject and deceased has the power to equalise them if only for a moment. He has reduced his existence to be captured in the photo just like his wife.

Also the direction he faces is the photo as to signify the next step of his journey is to become a photo on the wall after he dies.

What I can learn from this is that symbolism is very powerful when it comes to portraying duality. I think in my work I need more abstract elements.
