Was a passionate photographer. Woodman's photos were often featured in a derelict room, whilst she appeared either in vintage clothing or naked.
Her photographs were only a thumbnail size which encouraged a intimate relationship between the viewer and her work.
After her suicide many have commented on the poignant feeling that seeps into her work however her parents disagree.
They say that her work is not her death although some photos do have a painful truth.
but in essence she was an enigmatic and fun person. her mother found notes of humour.
In her long exposure shots, in my opinion, they are ghostly. the absence of saturation defines the shadows and light within the photos that produce a eerie, mysterious atmosphere.
In this project- past,present,future- and my theme, duality o f life and death Franchesca woodman is able to prompt me to consider how to use lighting and thoughtfully placed props to create an almost cryptic atmosphere. Where I was using the human form as a subject, Woodman didn't focus on herself as the subject and instead hid herself behind objects or was out of the way.
This has led me to think about not only the subject but their surroundings to portray a message.
